How to choose your perfume

A little explanation for you, ladies and gentlemen, about the different categories of perfumes. Because sometimes you can get lost in it…. and we don’t know what to choose!

There are three categories of perfumes, colognes, eau de toilette, eaux de parfum. Their difference lies in the concentration of the essence of the perfume and its durability over time.


  • L’EAU DE COLOGNE

A little history… The cologne comes from the eighteenth century and was created by Jean-Marie Farina, an Italian perfumer who settled in Cologne. Blend of essences (marjoram, lemon balm, anise, rosemary, etc.) and brandy. Its success reached all of Europe, including kings Louis XIV, XVI and Napoleon. A hundred years later, Farina’s cologne was copied so much that it created a blur in the minds of consumers, who even now don’t really know the difference between the categories.

Today in perfumery, an eau de cologne is generally presented in a bottle (without spray) and is the category with the least concentration of perfume essence (between 4 and 6%). It is a fresh water, which is generally applied as a splash and its hold on the skin is limited.

  • THE EAU DE TOILETTE

The concentration of the essence of perfume is about 7 to 12%, so more concentrated than an eau de cologne and therefore holds up better over time. If at the time of its creation, it was used to mask unpleasant body odor, it has become an asset of beauty and seduction. Today, it is an everyday perfume.

  • THE EAU DE PARFUM

The concentration of gasoline is higher than on the other two products. This is what ensures a better hold on the skin on a daily basis. Generally, eaux de parfums have more powerful base notes, which remain long after spraying and soak into clothes and hair. The eau de parfum will go perfectly with women and men, with an assertive character :-).
