STORAGE & SERENITY GUIDE
Organizing your jewelry box: 7 systems that change everything
A well-organized jewelry box means faster mornings, knotless chains, hoop earrings always in pairs and protected gilding.
This guide offers you 7 complementary systems — tested and adopted by our workshop — to structure your pieces according to their use, their material and their fragility.
Our Ylume creations are 18 k gold plated (3 μ), matte champagne finish, nickel-free, lead-free, cadmium-free :
good organization prolongs their shine.
Before you start: a short diagnosis (5 minutes)
Sort by Usage
- Daily : hoop earrings Ø 16–20 mm, medallion 45 cm, thin bangle.
- Evening : 60 cm chain, pendants, duo of bangles.
- Occasional : statement, bulky pieces.
Sort by risk
- Scratches : Avoid gold/gold contact without separation.
- Knots : fine chains to be systematically isolated.
- Loss : Separate loops attached in pairs.
Once you’ve sorted out, choose your combination of systems below. A mix of 2 to 4 solutions is sufficient in 90% of cases.
1) Modular trays: the base that transforms everything
Modular trays are shallow drawers or bins subdivided into compartments: perfect for seeing the whole thing at a glance without overlapping.
Choose a soft material (suede, fine velvet, microfiber) to protect the matte champagne gilding and limit the height to avoid stacking.
| To be | What for | Recommended setting |
|---|---|---|
| Boxes 4–6 cm (hoops/rings) | Frictionless | 1 pair per box, click clasps closed |
| Long squares (chains) | Lays flat, clasp closed | One chain per square, pendant facing the opening |
| Felt/microfiber | Anti-scratch, anti-slip | Bottom of each box + dust cover |
2) “Anti-shock” inserts for pendants & medals
Pendants and medallions like inserts that calm micromovements: mini-suede plates, felted pouches,
small compartmentalized boxes. The goal: to isolate each pendant to prevent it from scratching another piece.
- One insert = one pendant (especially on 45/60 cm chains).
- Smooth back against the surface, “lid” side pattern.
- If hammered pattern: insert a microfiber divider.
To discover: our 45/60 cm medallion necklaces (18 k gold plated — 3 μ),
designed to remain flat and legible in storage as well as worn.
3) Rolls & ring bars: maximum density, optimal safety
Nothing beats a good ring roll to save space without sacrificing order. Thread your rings by size
and separate the surfaces with microfiber if you juxtapose textured patterns.
Ring Roll
- Sort by increasing size (left → right).
- Place the stone rings in the center (protected).
- Intersperse a microfiber if raised vs smooth side by side.
Vertical bars (if box with lid)
- Ideal for thin stackable rings.
- Check the height of the lid to avoid contact.
- Attach the bar to prevent falls when opening.
Save up to 40% of space by moving the rings from the trays to a dedicated roller.
4) Cotton pouches & mini-bags: the breathable method
Cotton is your best ally: breathable, soft, easy to handle.
The cotton pouches that come with our Ylume jewelry are made for individual storage.
Slip in a single piece per pouch, with the clasps closed, and line up the pouches in a tray.
| Piece | Preparation | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Chain 45 cm | Close + lay flat | Individual pouch, pendant up |
| Chain 60 cm | Close + drive very loose | Individual pouch + microfiber divider |
| Hoops | Close on click | 1 pair per pouch, paired pairs side by side |
| Rushes | Wipe + Insulate | Pouch by rush or duo with divider |
5) Buckle bars and punch cards: no more orphan pairs
Buckle bars and punched cards (cardboard/felted plexiglass) prevent pair separations and speed up the choice.
Secure each pair together, clasps locked, and store vertically to save space.
- Drill cards (2 holes per pair) and slide the posts/clasps.
- Store the cards in an indexed box (day, evening, occasion).
- The hoop earrings are placed closed on a bar so that they do not open when rubbed.

6) Vertical displays: maximum visibility, minimum nodes
Vertical displays (trees, T-bars, silhouettes) are ideal for often-worn chains and bracelets .
Gravity does the rest: less contact = fewer knots. Place them away from dust (in a glass cabinet or inside a cabinet).
Chains & pendants
- 1 hook = 1 chain (never two on the same hook).
- Alternate lengths 45/60 cm on different heights.
- Avoid direct light (window) for the longevity of the surrounding textile materials.
Bracelets & Bangles
- Place on a padded horizontal bar (T-bar).
- Slight spacing between rods to avoid micromarks.
- Reverse the orientation once a month to distribute the wear.
Pro hint: reserve vertical displays for rotating rooms. The rest sleep flat (trays/pouches), chains closed.
7) The “capsule” method: 10 seconds each morning
Apply the logic of the wardrobe capsule to the jewel: a set of 4 to 6 pieces that mix together and cover 80% of situations.
Keep this capsule in a dedicated tray (or small box) handy.
Daily Capsule
- Hoops 18–20 mm smooth
- Medal 45 cm
- Thin Rush
- Thin stackable ring
Desktop Capsule
- Hoops 16–18 mm
- 45 + 60 cm (5 cm ≥ gap)
- Smooth medium bangle

Compose your capsule with our Ylume essentials (18 k gold plated — 3 μ, nickel, lead, cadmium free).
30-minute action plan (step-by-step)

- Decide on your system combo (e.g. trays + cotton pouches + loop bar + capsule).
- Equip: microfiber/felt bottoms, anti-humidity bags.
- Tidy:
- Closed chains, one per box/pouch.
- Pendants in dedicated inserts.
- Hoops fixed in pairs, click clasps closed.
- Filled and wedged ring roll.
- Create your own capsule tray (4–6 ready-to-wear pieces).
- Maintain : 5-minute weekly routine (see below).
Radiance maintenance (5-minute weekly routine)
- Wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth (dust, cream, sweat).
- Check the clasps (clicking the hoops, closing the chains).
- Close the chains before storage; Lay flat or in a pouch.
- Spread the rods to avoid repeated contact in the same place.
- Change/reactivate the anti-humidity bag if necessary.
These gestures preserve the 18 k (3 μ) gold-plated gilding with a matte champagne finish of our nickel-free, lead-free and cadmium-free jewelry.
10 Common Mistakes (and the Alternatives)
| What to avoid | What for | To do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Everything in one box | Scratches, knots, waste of time | Modular trays + individual pockets |
| Open chains at rest | Almost guaranteed knots | Always close the clasp before placing |
| Stacking gold on gold | Micro-scratches | Microfiber spacer / cotton pouches |
| Buckle Pairs | Loss of an ear | Bar/punch cards, pairs fixed together |
| Boxes without ventilation in the bathroom | Humidity, tarnishing | Cotton pouches + anti-humidity bags |
| Dusty displays in the open | Deposits, more frequent | Place in glass cabinet / in the cabinet |
| Mix “daily” and “occasional” | Wasted | Dedicated capsule tray + archive area |
| Unattended fragile clasps | Fall, loss | Weekly click and ring control |
| Heavy pendant laid on a thin | Deformation | Separate insert for the pendant |
| Nothing labeled | We disturb again by looking | Small, discreet labels (categories) |
FAQs — Jewelry Box Organization
How to avoid chain knots on a daily basis?
Always close the clasp before putting it on, store one chain per box/pouch and favor trays with long boxes. When travelling: straw, cling film or microfibre roll.
Should the gilding be separated from each other?
Yes. Even gilding can micro-scratch on contact. Use microfiber dividers or individual cotton pockets.
Where to install bulky pieces?
In dedicated inserts (mini-boxes) or on a vertical display sheltered from dust. Avoid laying them on thin chains.
What is the “right” amount in a box?
Enough for your needs, but no stacking. If a box overflows, create a new box or move on to an additional module.
How do you reconcile organization and speed in the morning?
The capsule. Gather 4–6 visible essentials in a dedicated tray and put the rest in an orderly “archive”.
